Shut your eyes and envision a beach town nestled in
a secluded spot on the Gulf of Mexico. You're surrounded by calm
aquamarine waters and towering green trees. Its name- Inlet Beach-was
monikered back in the 1920's when the McCaskill Investment Company
of DeFuniak Springs debuted this perfect paradise that woos your
heart and soul to the buying public.
Location: Looking for the last of South Walton's beach communities?
Your quest is over once you come to Scenic Highway 30-A and Emerald
Coast Parkway. Actually, Inlet Beach (its name is derived from Phillips
Inlet) is the dividing line between Walton and Bay Counties.
Historical Highlights: While Inlet Beach is considered an
established community today, it wasn't always like that. Once World
War 11 ended, veterans took advantage of the Bureau of Land Development
offering them first choice in a lottery. This, in turn, allowed
veteran to build in the beach area. In fact, because of the building
boom it was tagged "Soldier's Beach."
The Community: Modest inland homes. Multi-storied homes
on the gulf side. Spacious lots north of Emerald Coast Parkway complete
with a view of rolling hills. This is what Inlet Beach, a grounded
neighborhood, is all about. And, art galleries and antique shops
dotted along this coastline makes this beach town quaint with a
capital "Q." It's a charming place you'll want to call
home-and never want to leave it.
